Wlaf1450CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Town of Caryville is without a town administrator as of Friday. At Monday night’s monthly meeting of the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen Mayor Beth Lawson announced that effective Friday, Aug. 7, Town Administrator Craig Bennett had resigned. In his resignation letter Bennett cited health reasons as the reason for his leaving. Bennett was hired in December.
Police Chief Aaron Evans presented Officer Brett Russell with a certificate recognizing his five years with the department. He also introduced all of the members of his department now that he is fully staffed.
Aldermen Eric Jones clarified during the meeting that the camera on the four lane in Caryville does not belong to the town. However, who owned the camera was not disclosed.
The board discussed the need for technological upgrades to the front office. Staff is currently having issues with a lack of electronic storage and outdated computers. After a brief discussion, the board voted to put the item out to bid.
Items on the agenda were Ordinance 2026-09 an ordinance amending Title 12, Building, Utility, etc. Codes, of the Municipal Code of the Town of Caryville, Tennessee, by adding Section 12-105 establishing building permit, plan review, inspection, and related fees are on the agenda for discussion was tabled. The board will hold a workshop at a later date to discuss this matter further before voting on it. Next was a discussion about off-ramp and industrial park streetlight repair. This item was tabled as well. Lastly, the board approved changing employees who need access to department bank account statements, there were former employees listed on the accounts that need to be deleted.
