Officer familiar with driver’s DL status makes drug arrest

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Being behind the wheel of a car without a valid driver’s is a gamble that did not pay off for William Poston. On Wednesday afternoon, Poston was traveling in a white Ford Taurus near the Frontier Store in the valley when he was spotted by Campbell Det.-Sgt. Jackie Heatherly.

Heatherly knew Poston’s driver’s license status, because he wrote him a citation in a prior encounter for driving on a revoked license. The Det.-Sgt. made the traffic stop on Frontier Road. Upon making contact with Poston, Heatherly allegedly saw in plain sight a set of digital scales in the front seat of Poston’s car.

Poston was asked to step out of his car and did and proceeded to tell the officer that his license was still revoked, and that he didn’t have insurance or proper registration for the Ford.

The Det.-Sgt. asked Poston if he had anything illegal, and he allegedly said that “he may have a little meth inside the car”. Det. Franklin Ayers arrived to assist and located a zip lock baggie containing approximately 24 grams of a substance thought to be meth, according to the police report. Multiple empty baggies and a glass pipe were also allegedly recovered.

Poston,48, Forrest Grove Road-La Follette, was arrested on charges of schedule II meth with intent-manufacture-sell-deliver (.5 grams or over), possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with license suspended-cancelled-revoked, failure to provide proof of registration and insurance and driving with an expired registration.
