CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- I appreciate conservatives who want to understand the real differences between my opponent and me. While we share many of the same values, and we’re both graduates of the University of Tennessee, there is a clear difference in experience, leadership, and results.
Since being elected to serve our district, I have secured funding for a new TCAT in Campbell County, helped deliver a new community college and TCAT in Union County, expanded TCAT programs, increased dual enrollment and Middle College opportunities, and supported major investments in education while protecting local control. I have also consistently fought for strong pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, and pro-parent legislation.
On school choice, my record is clear. I have been a strong supporter of Education Freedom Scholarships because I believe parents, not the government, should decide where their children are educated. I have fought to remove woke influences from our classrooms and will continue to do so. We can and should support both strong public schools and expanded educational freedom. That’s exactly what we’ve done by increasing public school funding by more than $8.1 billion, raising the minimum teacher salary to $50,000, and protecting local control.
I understand the value of public education firsthand. I graduated from LaFollette High School and earned my degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee. Education has also been a cornerstone of my family. My uncle, Bill Powers, served as a teacher, principal, and Campbell County Director of Schools, and my wife, Tracy, served as Director of Roane State Community College for 26 years.

Serving in the legislature requires more than good intentions. Managing a $58 billion state budget, passing meaningful conservative legislation, and delivering real results for our communities takes proven leadership and real-world experience. Before serving in the legislature, I spent 37 years building a career in business and the insurance industry. Tracy and I have been married for 39 years, and we have been active members of First Baptist Church in Jacksboro for more than 35 years.
I am proud to have earned the trust and endorsement of Governor Bill Lee, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee Right to Life, the NRA, NFIB, and the Tennessee Professional Firefighters. Their support reflects my consistent conservative record and my commitment to delivering results for the people I serve.
