JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Educators make a difference in students’ lives every day. For many students, having a school employee who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher, or school employee who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hardworking educators with a weekly feature.
Cindy Honaker is Eagle Tire Pros Educator of the Week. She teaches third grade English Language Arts (ELA) at Jacksboro Elementary School and is in her 20th year in education.

Honaker grew up in Campbell County. She is married to Mark Honaker. They have two children, Brooke Goddard and husband Andrew, Drew Honaker, and wife Kelsey, and two grandsons Neylan Goddard and Mitchell Honaker.
“I love my family dearly and my grandsons are my pride and joy,” Honaker said.
Honaker currently teaches third grade ELA at Jacksboro Elementary School. She taught for 12 years at LaFollette Elementary School and is currently in her eighth year at Jacksboro Elementary School.
“I wanted to teach school for as long as I can remember but did not have the opportunity to finish my degree directly out of high school. I worked at REACHS, now known as CHET, for 13 years before going back to school to complete my teaching degree,” Honaker said.
She graduated from Campbell County High School in 1986, Roane State in 1990, Tennessee Tech University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree, Union College in 2012 with a master’s degree, and Lincoln Memorial University in 2013 with an Ed.S degree.

“I have many educators who have inspired me along the way. My Algebra I teacher, Mr. Jerry Dagley, was one of my favorite teachers. The one attribute that stands out about him was his kindness. He was always so patient and willing to explain the process of working out the problems. I have always credited him for my love of Algebra. He had a way of making it simple, and it stuck. Also, my lifelong friend Suzanne Bryant was there to encourage me every step of the way. I have worked alongside some of the best coworkers ever. They are some of my dearest friends to this day,” Honaker said.
She said she was blessed with her support system through everything.

“I could not have achieved any of this, number one without GOD and my biggest supporter, my husband Mark. He was there through thick and thin, and the times going through school when I thought I could not continue, he would say, “You can do this.” I have been very blessed with a special aunt, Janet Lee, who has stood by me and helped me throughout the years. She has spent countless days with me at school decorating for the holiday season or helping put my room back together after summer break. I cannot thank all these people enough, and I would not be where I am today if it were not for their support. I am very thankful for the past twenty years. It has been the twenty most rewarding years of my life!”
