JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- At Monday’s commission workshop, County Commission Chairman Johnny Bruce told commissioners he wanted everyone to help compile a list of the county’s pending projects.

He went around the room with several commissioners giving brief updates, but a more comprehensive list will be in the works.

Commissioner Rusty Orick updated about the county regional planning commission, saying that the county’s planner was “looking at storm water drainage throughout the state.”

“Also, it’s a possibility the Planning Commission will look into what we can do to get an engineer on retainer,” Orick said.

Commissioner Scott Stanfield gave an update about the Airport committee and said that “everything is moving forward so far as renovations go.” He also reported that the state would be at the airport on Feb. 11th at 10 am. Other work being done includes dirt removal, resurface and work on the taxi area.

A Jail committee update included the announcement from Sheriff Wayne Barton that the work on the camera security project began on Monday, January 13. According to Barton, the company said it is a large project and will take six to eight months to complete.

In the Rules and ethics committee, Commissioner Zach Marlow warned fellow commissioners that changes in state laws, might result in the need for the county to update its rules.

“We also may want to look at providing some ethics training for our employees,” Marlow said.

An upcoming meeting will be set for the Ways and Means committee in order for it to elect a chair and vice chair.

Commissioner Rusty Orick updated on the waterline committee, saying that the water line extension project would be underway as “soon as LUB funding is in place.”

“They are waiting on State Revolving Fund approval, but we should be laying water line by spring, Orick said.

Other committee updates from the Building and Grounds committee, the delinquent tax committee, industrial committee, recreational committee, among others will be discussed after the pending project list is compiled. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-01/14/2025-6AM)
