Need for signage for Devil’s Racetrack and Little Egypt discussed

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Christmas Light Contest winners were announced at Monday night’s Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The first place winner was Don and Martha Tackett, second place was Dewayne Goins and third place winner was Chris Hicks.

There were three entrants in the contest. The board discussed coming up with an alternative contest or another way people could enter the contest. Mayor David Chambers requested members of the board give the issue some thought and they would discuss the contest further at the February meeting.

In communications from the mayor, Chambers recognized the street department for their work during the snow over the weekend. He told the board that the town is moving forward with the demolition of the building owned by Joe Arnold. The demolition of the building due to the poor condition of it has been discussed in several previous meetings.

A second reading of Ordinance 2024-15 amending the general fund annual operating budget in the amount of $145 was approved.

The board declared tables, chairs, radio equipment from the fire department and a F550 truck with a western snowplow as surplus. The board approved the sale of the truck and the radio equipment, the other items will be donated.

Several months ago the board agreed to put $500,000 into a CD at Builtwell Bank, the CD will mature on Feb. 11. The board will need to come to an agreement on what to do with the money moving forward. Chambers discussed with the board a couple of different options, the first being to reinvest the money into another CD at the bank or they could utilize the Local Government Investment Pool. The board will decide at the February meeting.

Chambers discussed with the board the need for signs to Devil’s Racetrack and Little Egypt. He told the board a lot of people had been going to Crutchfield Road which is a dead end. He requested they have three signs made guiding individuals to Devil’s Racetrack and Little Egypt.

In the final business of the night the board approved CJUC to start the process to correct storm water run-off on old 63 near Chris’s Truck Repair. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-01/14/2025-6AM)
