Modern convenience is time saver for firefighters

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Friday was also a winter storm prep day for the La Follette Fire Department. “When we have bad weather, all mutual aid comes out of Fire Station 1. In fact, we have an eight man shift for this shift, “A” Shift today,” said LFD Captain Johnny Seal.

“We put actual chains on this one unit for really difficult traction situations. In fact, this is a new set; just took it out of the bag Friday morning. These are not ice cleated, just standard chains,” said Captain Seal.

This is an Insta Chain.

The Insta Chain turns on at the flip of a switch. The mechanism, when on, moves up close to the tandem tire and rotates the chains in such a way that the chains spin under the tire giving the bottom of the tire the chain traction effect. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-01/11/2025-NOON)
