LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Teachers make a difference in their students’ lives every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hard-working educators with a weekly feature.

This week’s featured teacher is Hannah Cotton. She currently teaches 6th grade English Language Arts at LaFollette Middle School and is in her second year of teaching. She also coaches the LMS Dance Team.

Hannah Cotton is Eagle Tire Pros Teacher of the Week. She teaches 6th Grade ELA at LaFollette Middle School.

Cotton is from Campbell County and graduated from Campbell County High School.

“Outside of school I am an avid reader of a variety of genres, love to travel, and spend time with my friends and family. This is also my first year coaching the LMS dance team which has been a lot of fun,” Cotton said.

She was inspired to go into an education career from her own English teachers and a college professor from the University of the Cumberlands (UTC).

“I had an amazing college professor at UTC that encouraged me to go into education because it otherwise was not something I had ever envisioned before. I feel like God has given me this opportunity to be a light for him and inspire students. Also, I had great English teachers in school that instilled a love of reading and writing. I hope to be able to inspire my students to love reading in the same way,” Cotton said.

She also gives credit to “now retired teacher Tammy Teague” who was an “amazing mentor last year” when Cotton was a first-year teacher.

Cotton said she loves her job and her work environment.

“My favorite part of the job is that I love getting to talk about something I am passionate about every day. Also, getting to build relationships with students and watch them grow throughout the year. Everyone at LMS creates a great and respectful environment, but a special thanks to my 6th grade team who I love collaborating and working with every day.”

Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros. To nominate a teacher for teacher of the week honors, please send your nomination to wlaf@1450wlaf.com.
