Going deer hunting is a “maybe” while math is Cooper Clabo’s favorite subject, and it shows

DUFF, TN (WLAF)- Word travels pretty fast in a community as small as White Oak. The latest word to make the rounds is about the perfect math score Cooper Clabo tallied on his TCAP at White Oak Elementary School.
When asked about his favorite subject, math was a no hesitation answer from Cooper during our Friday visit to his school. And about his favorite food? He just popped his black T-shirt with red lettering spelling pizza.

“Aside from the perfect math score, he recorded a very high ELA (English Language Arts) score,” said Gabe Maiden, school principal. Maiden goes on to say that Cooper has a very dry and good sense of humor. “The whole community is proud,” said Maiden.
Cooper has adjusted well since he lost his mother Shaina last November, the family says. “He sticks close to me,” said Nan Nan, Angie Henderson, Cooper’s grandmother who is raising him. Shaina was Angie’s daughter.

Joni Maiden and Jennifer Rutherford team teach the 4th grade class Cooper attends with his sister Taelynn. Last year’s third grade teachers for Cooper were Charli Johnson and Erica Shelby.
“Anything you want made out of Legos, he can create it. He’s into Hot Wheels, too,” said Angie about her nine-year old grandson.
Great grandfather Papaw Willie Gene Henderson gets a hug-a-day from Cooper, and he also has a truck made out of Legos. “It took Cooper about a day to make that truck for me. It sits up on a shelf, and nobody touches it,” said Willie.
Cooper, the only boy in the family of seven other girls, lives with Angie over at Tackett, just east of the school. “He makes us very happy, very proud,” said Angie.

Car Auction is Cooper’s favorite TV show. “He’s a home boy,” said Willie. “I like sitting on the couch,” said Cooper.
“He just won’t do it. He won’t go deer hunting with me. He says maybe, but he doesn’t want to get up that early on what he calls his days off, Saturday and Sunday,” said Willie. However, Willie asked one more time on Friday if Cooper would go with him on Saturday, and he said “maybe”.
Both Gabe and Angie call Cooper a very intelligent child, and rightfully so. Word is Cooper’s aiming for another perfect score this next TCAP season.
Six other Campbell County students scored a 100 on their Math TCAPs, Zane Carroll, Abby Sampieri and Vivien Stooksbury of Jacksboro Elementary School, Jacksboro Middle School 7th grader Lacie Hatmaker along with Abigail Ford and Layla Hatmaker of La Follette Elementary School. WLAF featured a story on the LES students and the JMS student, and it will soon be featuring the JES students.
