LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been re-invested into the community over the years through the proceeds generated at the annual LA Cruizers Car Show. Saturday marked the 23rd such event. “We’re a bunch of like minded car enthusiasts that like to get together, hang out and show our cars off, and we get to raise some money while we do it,” said Tom Hatmaker, President of the LA Cruizers Car Club.

Folks began rolling in with their classic cars and trucks starting as early as 8am Saturday ahead of the 10am start time. “The money generated through the Cruizers car show stays here at home and goes back into the community. Since the show’s beginning, more than $300,000, not counting this latest show, have been donated to local organizations,” said Hatmaker. See Charlie Hutson’s photo gallery HERE.

It was quit the active day on Saturday.
Christmas food boxes to shut-ins (mainly seniors) is an annual project. “We delivered 35 boxes last year. The boxes contained everything needed to prepare a traditional Christmas dinner,” said Hatmaker.

The Voice of the Cougars Les Martin served as master of ceremonies Saturday.
The Campbell County Cancer Association, the Honor Guard, Santa for Seniors, Christmas gifts for children in need and the honor guard are some of the projects the club supports.

Some of the members of the LA Cruizers paused for a quick photo, David Russell, Susie Carroll, Olivia Elliott and Laura Hatmaker.
Club members take part in quite a few funerals every year; for members who have passed and even for car enthusiasts. “When a family calls, we go. We drive through the procession,” said Hatmaker.

The Cruizers have eight scheduled cruize-ins this season, four each at Hardee’s and on North Tennessee Avenue. There is one remaining date, and that’s on North Tennessee Avenue on Sat., Sep. 7, starting at 6pm.
