Rodney Daugherty passed away suddenly at the age of 50.
Rodney was born on the 14th of October in 1973 to Roger and Donna Daugherty of Cherry Bottom. After High School Rodney enlisted and joined the TNARNG 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He was extremely proud to be able to serve the country he loved and continue the line of Daugherty’s that served before him.
After graduation of 88M School in Fort Lost in the Woods of Misery, Rodney applied his military training to civilian life and began a lifelong career in logistics. He quickly grew accustomed to working the very long hours those jobs demanded and made life long friends with many co-workers.
When mules talk about stubbornness they say, “That mule is as stubborn as a Rodneyâ€. He was fierce in his stance. If you could get him to change his mind, you had really done something. He believed what he believed with a passion and if you were on his team there was no better person to have with you.
Rodney enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life and had settled on motorcycling in most recent years. He enjoyed making his radio so loud that no other riders would have to use theirs; he was so considerate that way. But most of all, he loved the fact that his father Roger could join him out on the road.
Rodney was also a huge fan of sports, particularly UT Football. One could tell whether or not the Vols were winning or losing simply by watching Rodney’s face. Rodney’s passion for UT was unmistakable and one of the things that made him who he was.
No Dad was more proud of their son. Rodney loved that Zack chose to enlist and extend the Daugherty line of service. He loved that Zack chose to serve his community as a Police Officer. He was proud of how driven Zack was and all he had accomplished. If you talked to Rodney, you knew how Zack was doing. In fact, you might get Facetimed with him right on the spot.
Rodney is preceded in death by his mother Donna Daugherty, grandparents Earl and Nan Daugherty and Paul and Eva Disney, uncle Gary Daugherty, aunts Mary Lou Raby and Melanie Disney Hill, and cousin Tonya Ayers. He is survived by his son Zack Daugherty, father Roger Daugherty, brother Travis Daugherty, nephew Hunter Daugherty, aunt Charlotte (Lindell) Wilson, uncle Larry (Pat) Daugherty and aunts Betty Daugherty and Connie Cox as well as special life long friends Derrick Baird, Rick Baker and CJ Pennycuff. He will be sorely missed by his many friends, family, and special neighbors.
Visitation will be held at Leach Family Funeral Home and Cremation in “Lake City†on June 30th at 1:00pm with a celebration of life at 3:00pm. Graveside service will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery. www.leachfailyfuneralhome.com
