LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Recently, LaFollette Police Officer Anthony Mahar saw a woman identified as Ariel Ray Gibson driving a gray Ford vehicle failing to stop for the traffic light at the intersection of Jacksboro Pike and South Ave at Gamble Motors.
Officer Mahar stopped the vehicle at 1200 Jacksboro Pike (in front of Campbell Tobacco & Beer) at 11:43am on Tue., May 28. While he was getting out of his cruiser, he saw the male passenger exit the vehicle and lean back in the passenger side of the vehicle. Mahar asked the passenger to walk to the front of his patrol car. While he was standing at the Ford, the passenger told Mahar that he didn’t have any warrants and that all he had on him was two syringes, according to a report from the LaFollette Police Department.
The officer told the passenger to just leave them in his pocket and he would get them out. Officer Mahar made contact with Gibson, the driver of the vehicle, who had exited the vehicle and was messing around in the vehicle while Mahar was talking to the passenger. Officer Mahar asked Gibson to walk back to his vehicle, and she told him she wasn’t going to and continued to mess with her wallet and purse. Officer Mahar was finally able to get Gibson in front of the police cruiser, and while she was standing there, she voluntarily told him that there was a syringe in the car and that she was only with the passenger so he would shoot her up with Meth, based on the police report.
Officer Mahar checked the Gibson’s driver’s license status by name and date of birth and was informed by dispatch that her license was suspended. While the officer was standing at the driver’s door looking in the vehicle, he could see in plain sight a needle that had a bloody substance drawn in to it. Officer Mahar asked Gibson what was in the syringe, and she allegedly told him that it was Meth.
At this point, Officer Mahar read Gibson her rights and informed her that he had probable cause to search the vehicle and asked if there was anything else in the car that he needed to know about, and she reported no. While Officer Mahar was checking the purse at the driver door of the vehicle, Detective-Sergeant Noah Riggs, who provided back up, showed Officer Mahar that he had located three clear baggies; two that had a crystal-like substance in them that weighed approximately 3.7 grams. In the third bag was a gray/brown substance that weighed approximately one gram. In Gibson’s purse was a rubber band that is used to tie the arm, according to the report. In Gibson’s wallet where the substances were located was a cut corner baggie used to package and deliver illegal substance. The passenger was released with the vehicle per the owner’s request.
Gibson, 33, 196 Louis Sharp Rd, LaFollette was charged with possession schedule I, manufacture-delivery-sell schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on suspended and traffic control device. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/06/2024-6AM)
