KINGSTON, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – State Senator Ken Yager, R-Kingston, (photo above) Monday announced his candidacy for re-election to the Tennessee Senate. Yager, who serves in a key leadership role as the Chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus, is seeking a 5th term representing Senate District 12.

“I am pleased to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Tennessee State Senate. My tenure in the Senate is marked by a steadfast commitment to our community and local governments. Constituents always come first. With God’s help, I do the very best I can to serve our district. Today, I humbly ask the citizens in Senate District 12 to allow me to continue that service by voting for me in the August 1 primary election and November 5 general election.

“I have and will continue to work on the serious problems of crime and drug abuse plaguing our communities. It is time to stop the influx of made-in-China fentanyl that is coming across our unsecure southern border and killing Tennesseans. Border security is critical to stopping the illegal drugs pouring into our State.

“I am proud that during my tenure, through conservative practices, Tennessee has become the #1 state for long term fiscal stability. The changing economic landscape requires an experienced hand to continue the responsible management of state government. In the Senate, I will ensure taxes remain low and that the state continues to operate effectively and efficiently.

“Working with two governors, we have secured millions of dollars for our district to attract jobs, spur economic development, improve educational opportunities and build roads.

“As a former school teacher, education has always been close to my heart. The direction of our state lies in the hands of our young citizens. We must do all we can do to equip them for the workforce and prepare them for leadership.

“Since being elected to the Senate, it has been an honor to work alongside leaders and citizens in Senate District 12 to make our district a better place to live, work and raise a family. I represent nine of the finest counties in Tennessee. With your help and God’s blessing, I will continue to fight for East Tennessee conservative values in Nashville.

“I appreciate your prayers and am grateful for the opportunity to serve.”

The 12th Senate District is made up of Campbell, Clay, Fentress, Macon, Morgan, Overton, Pickett, Roane and Scott Counties. The 2024 primary election is set for August 1, with early voting from July 12 – 27.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/30/2024-6AM)
