JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County Animal Center Director Patricia Siwinski was honored by commissioners on Monday evening with a proclamation in recognition of her being chosen as Campbell County’s Adult Volunteer of the Year.

Each year, volunteers throughout Tennessee are honored by the State. This initiative, led by Volunteer Tennessee, seeks to recognize outstanding community servants from each of Tennessee’s 95 counties.

Siwinski has served the past eight years as the director of the animal center without accepting a salary so the funds can instead go towards helping the center operate. During her time, the save rate at the shelter has risen “astronomically”, according to County Mayor Jack Lynch.

Siwinksi is directly responsible for taking the animal center from a three percent save rate to an 82 percent save rate.

She has also implemented a small animal clinic that performs public spay and neuter services through no cost to taxpayers.

One of Siwinski’s other projects is the Critter Cupboard – a community pet food bank that helps fill in the gaps for pet owners who are struggling.

“We, the mayor and the commissioners thank you for all you have done,” Lynch said.

Siwinski, along with Bella Fleming, the youth volunteer of the year, will be recognized by Gov. Bill Lee at a special ceremony in Nashville this spring.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/27/2024-6AM)
