Campbell finishes its season at 23 & 7 while Marville moves on with a 12 & 19 mark

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Your Lady Cougars, for the first time since 2019, hosted round 1 of the Region 2-AAAA tournament. The opponent was the Maryville Lady Rebels who last defeated William Blount 51-19 in the district 4-AAAA tournament consolation game.

It was a back-and-forth battle to start. Carley Kitts sparked the Lady Cougar offense with two three pointers. At the end of the first quarter, Campbell led Maryville 13-12.

The second half is where the tide began to turn toward the Lady Rebels’. Maryville outscored the Orange-and-Blue 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 26-17 lead into the halftime break.

In the third and fourth quarter, Campbell made some runs, but they were short lived. Every comeback effort the Lady Cougars made, Maryville matched it; and when the horn sounded, the Lady Rebels ended Campbell’s season by a final score of 50-37.

Leading scoring for Campbell was Bella Lester who totaled 15 points in the contest. Lester also gained Local Realtor Gage Dople Player of the Game honors. Carley Kitts scored 9 points. Saylor Hutcheson contributed 7 points. Lacey Pemberton, Preslee Chapman, and Reagan Davis rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.

With the loss, the season ends for Campbell; and the Lady Cougars finish with a 23 and 7 overall record. While it is an unfortunate ending for the Orange-and-Blue, the heartbreak is made a little better knowing that every Lady Cougar can return to play in the 2024-2025 season.
