Campbell rings up 20th win of the season; 69-61 over Central
By Clayton Carroll
FOUNTAIN CITY, TN (WLAF) – Following a 52-44 victory at Halls the night before, Campbell traveled to Central on Tuesday to battle the Lady Bobcats in the last road game of the regular season.
It took Campbell only nine seconds to score as Saylor Hutcheson controlled the opening tip and took it all the way to the hoop. Bella Lester, back from an ankle injury that she suffered at Halls, tallied five quick points in the first three minutes of the game. The Lady Cougars kept up the pace and the points in the first quarter to lead Central 20-12.
The Lady Bobcats cut Campbell’s lead to seven before Preslee Chapman scored six straight to put the Lady Cougars up by 13. After this though, Central caught on fire. The Lady Bobcats rallied to diminish the Campbell lead down to two. It was 35-33 at the halftime break.
Thirty seconds into the second half Central tied up the game for the first time since 0-0 before Saylor Hutcheson drilled a three, followed by a midrange jumper to put Campbell back on top by five. The Lady Bobcats quickly answered back with a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the ball-game 42-40. Basketball is a game of runs, and it was the Lady Cougars’ turn to shift the momentum in their direction. The Orange-and-Blue rattled off a 16-4 run to end the third quarter. After three, Campbell led Central 56-46.
At one point in the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars led by 16, but the Lady Bobcats had one final push in store. Fortunately for Campbell, Central’s run was too little too late as the Orange-and-Blue hung on for the win 69-61.
Lacy Pemberton, your Local Realtor Gage Dople Player of the Game, was the leading scorer for Campbell with 15 points on the night. Saylor Hutcheson and Bella Lester totaled 12 points apiece. Ten points a piece were contributed from Carley Kitts and Preslee Chapman. Jayden Kitts scored eight, and Aleaah Woodson rounded out the scoring column with two points.
