NEW TAZEWELL, TN (WLAF) – After a quick start by Northview Academy, the Campbell Cougars battled back to make it a nip-n-tuck game the rest of the night on Friday. Hear Josh Parker’s call HERE on demand from WLAF.

At the KOC/Elevation Invitational at Claiborne High School, Northview hung on via late free throws to defeat Campbell 56-52. Campbell falls to 3 & 1 while the Cougars of Northview go to 4 & 1 advancing to tonight’s championship game against the Claiborne Bulldogs. 

Northview jumped out to a 6-0 lead only to see Campbell score 18 of the next 28 points to claim an end of the first quarter 18-16 edge. Campbell outscored Northview 14-13 in the second quarter in the back and forth game to stay in front by 32-29 at intermission.

Campbell managed only nine third quarter points while Northview tallied 14 giving Northview a 43-41 advantage entering the final quarter where it was 13-11 in that quarter in favor of Northview.

A reverse lay up by Gavin Owens chopped Northview’s lead to 54-52 with 18-seconds to play. However, Campbell could not get even or take the lead as Northview made two more free throws to win the four point game.

Luke Browning was Campbell’s leading scorer with 12 while seven points each came from Tyler Kitts and Gavin Owens. Gavin Cox pumped in six points. Gabe St. John and Jordan Day totaled five-a-piece as four points came from Logan Day. Three points were scored by each Jake Hatmaker and Cole Miller.
