Jacksboro Middle schoolers place first in entrepreneur contest

Sixth graders Macey Miesel and Eden Reese were among the first place winners of the ESTEAM Pitch Series, an entrepreneur contest open to local middle- and high-school students in Appalachia.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) - Two Jacksboro Middle schoolers placed first in the ESTEAM Pitch Series entrepreneur contest, winning $500 each. Sixth graders Macey Miesel and Eden Reese created their business idea Made-N-Memories to pitch to judges in a multi-county and state competition open to middle school and high school students. Erica Simpson, sixth grade English Language Arts (ELA) teacher, was their sponsor for the contest. 


Commission goes from high to low; much spending in between

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) - A lengthy county commission workshop session began Monday night with some upbeat presentations and ended nearly three hours later with some sniping between the mayor and one commissioner. In between, much of the discussion involved money – how much and where it will come from to fund a number of projects on the county’s wish list.

BOE hears proposal for health care partnership at Jellico schools, plans for summer learning camps

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) - Rarely in a lifetime do you get to witness a miracle or see "the power of prayer" embodied, but for the crowd gathered along the side of the street in front of IGA, there was no doubt what they were seeing was a miracle as Zach Lloyd was escorted home by local police and sheriff's deputies.

Non-working car light lands a wanted woman in jail

WHITE OAK, TN (WLAF) - A car with a non-working light was pulled over last Monday on the grounds of White Oak School. Campbell County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher West noticed the bad light on the 1999 blue Ford Expedition while on routine patrol on White Oak Road.


Caryville could see business growth

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) - The Town of Caryville could soon have two new businesses at Exit 141; one at the exit and another in the industrial park. Mayor Robert Stooksbury did not disclose what the businesses are but said he would save the official announcement for them.
