JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – A Jacksboro man found himself under arrest after sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle at a stop sign for more than an hour last Thursday.

In the very early morning hours of March 9th, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Hurst responded to the intersection of Queener and Island Ford Roads for a vehicle that had been sitting at the stop sign for more than an hour.

When he arrived he found a man identified as Jonathan Kirby in the vehicle. Kirby allegedly had blood shot eyes and slurred speech. He was asked to step out of the vehicle, and that’s when Deputy Hurst noticed Kirby was unsteady on his feet. When he opened the door, Hurst saw a small baggie of white powder in the door handle believed to be Fentanyl, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. Kirby was placed under arrest and an inventory of the vehicle revealed a green leafy substance in two large baggies that came out to be about two ounces in weight.

Kirby, 28, 134 Ridenour Lane, Jacksboro was charged with public intoxication, possession of schedule I controlled substance and possession of schedule VI controlled substance.

It was 5:30am when Kirby was booked into the Campbell County Jail. He is free on bond and is due in court on March 21. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/16/2023-6AM)
