CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – On Monday night the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met with nine items on the agenda.

As the Caryville Cares Playground moves forward, The Town of Caryville continues to do its part of the work. The board approved Roadway Solutions installing a guardrail on Main Street to School Street, the project will cost the town approximately $8,000.  Aldermen Patrick Pebley updated the board on funds raised for the Caryville Cares Playground, Pebley reported that the Dancing with the Stars raised approximately $35,000. He continued that an impromptu fundraiser at Jack’s Place raised $2,500 for the playground.

The board had one resolution and two ordinances to discuss. Resolution No. 2023-02 authorizing the Mayor and Town of Caryville to submit an Appalachian Regional Commission application for the I-75 Ershell Collins Industrial Park storage tank water system project was approved. Ordinance No. 2023-01 amending the annual operating budget and Ordinance 2023-02 amending the zoning map of the Town of Caryville were approved. The ordinance amends parcel 120J A 063.00 from R-1 low density residential to C2 general business district. The parcel is located on Lowe Street and is surrounded by commercial properties.  

In fire department business, the architect proposal for the fire department building extension was approved. The architect firm chosen was Samual R. Moser with Main Street Studio Architecture. Applying for a state grant to purchase four sets of turn out gear on the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program was approved.

James Coffey was hired by the Caryville Police Department after completing his 90 day probationary period. Applying for the Tennessee Highway Visibility grant was approved. This grant is applied for annually for equipment for the police department.

The East Tennessee Development District contract for fiscal year 2023-24 and fiscal year 2024-25 in the amount of $8,917.50 was approved. The contract provides the town with a state planner. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/14/2023-6AM)
