JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – In a show of support for Campbell County educators, the Board of Education passed two resolutions in recognition of teachers, as well as Director of Schools Jennifer Fields and her staff. The resolutions were unanimously approved on Tuesday evening at the school board meeting and declared July 12 as Director of Schools and Staff appreciation Day in Campbell County.

Fields also prepared a resolution to present to the board to show teachers they had her support, as well as the support of her staff and the school board. School Board Chairman Johnny Byrge and other school board members took turns reading parts of the resolution out loud to thank Fields and her staff.

“Thank you to all of our teachers, they put in grueling hours and lots of extra work and don’t get credit for it. We just appreciate them so much, ” said school board member Lisa Fields.

Fields thanked school board members for their recognition. “Thank you all so much. I appreciate the recognition and the encouragement and most of all the support over the last couple years … I would be nothing without my staff and right on down the line in the school system. They deserve so much credit for their tireless efforts in educating the children of Campbell County,” Fields said. Fields said throughout her 29 years in education, she “always wants to do the most for the most people.” “I appreciate you trusting me with that honor and responsibility,” Fields said.

Fields also read a resolution in honor of Campbell County teachers. She said that while it was always a good time to honor teachers, now was an essential time to recognize them “in the aftermath of negative remarks made about the Tennessee school system.” Fields was referencing negative remarks made in late June by Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee. Not only that, the governor did not take advantage of the opportunity to distance himself from the disparaging comments made by Arnn.

School Board Members Ronnie Lasley, Faye Heatherly and other school board members took turns reading parts of the resolution out loud to thank Fields and her staff.

Fields said she wanted to give area educators the honor and recognition they deserve. “I want to take this opportunity to recognize and support them. They give us their all on a daily basis. Especially with the pandemic, teachers have gone above and beyond. They have been making up for learning loss, our teachers meet social and emotional and academic needs of our students on a daily basis and they work tirelessly doing it,” Fields said.

Before the meeting’s close, all nine school board members present said they wanted to thank Director Fields, her staff, as well as all the district’s teachers “for all they do in the school system.”

“Thank you to all of our teachers, they put in grueling hours and lots of extra work and don’t get credit for it. We just appreciate them so much, ” said school board member Lisa Fields. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/13/2022-6AM)
