JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- Prosecutors have opted to dismiss an indictment they never asked for.

In December 2019, a Campbell County Grand Jury, on its will indicted one time deputy, Dakota Williams, for official misconduct, official oppression and assault. Three years later, the charges have been dismissed following the submission of an excessive force expert’s report.

Williams was indicted, along with two other deputies, for allegedly using excessive force on a suspect.

Caesar Garcia, a 29 year law enforcement veteran and academy instructor, was asked to review reports regarding the incident along with a video from the night Nathan Ling was arrested, according to court records. Garcia had testified at the hearing of Justin Crabtree, who was also indicted and subsequently sentenced to jail in the case.

Prosecutors asked Garcia to review Williams’ case following a report from an expert retained by Williams’ attorney.

Garcia determined that any force used that night by Williams was “lawful,” court records said.

Sean Brown, the third deputy indicted, will have his case reviewed in April.

In December 2020, Crabtree pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and official oppression. He was later sentenced to 91 days in jail and four years probation. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 02/09/2022- 6AM)

  1. If the charges were dismissed, he should get his job back, if he wants it, and get back pay.
