“Congratulations to you for your hard work,” said Lion Carol McDonald as she presented Jazlyn Lemond with her $150.00 check.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Annually, the Campbell County Lions Club sponsors the Peace Poster contest and encourages students at the Jacksboro and La Follette Middle Schools to participate in the contest. The first winners were honored Monday at LMS.

The first place winner receives $150, second place $100 as the finishers from each school. First place winners go to the State level and potentially could advance all the way to the International level.

Jazlyn Lemond reached one of her goals; finishing in first place locally. Now, she looks toward winning on the state level. The jury is still out on the competition in the state race.

“If we had an advanced art class, she’d be in it even as a 7th grader,” said LMS Art Teacher Allan Miller.

Mia Hurst, who was unavailable Monday, is the second place finisher at LMS. Last year, as a 6th grade art student, Lemond finished second in the Peace Poster Contest.

Lions Club International sponsors the Peace Poster contest every year, and it starts at local club level and progresses to the district level, state, national and the international. The prize at the international level is $5,000 plus a trip to the United Nations on Lions Day. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/21/2025-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
