Grounding breaking ceremony Wednesday morning

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – On Monday night, the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met in a special called meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to declare the municipal property at 144 Sonny Boshears Lane, Pioneer, as surplus.
Alderwoman Vickie Heatherly made the motion to declare the property as surplus with a second from Alderman Josh Monday. All voted in favor of the motion except Alderman Eric Jones and Alderman Patrick Pebley who were absent from the meeting.
The next item on the agenda was the sale of the property to United Rare Earths. Monday made the motion to sell the property with a second by Alderman Lloyd Lawson. All aldermen who were present were in favor of the sale.
United Rare Earths will have three phases, according to Monday. The first phase will be recycling, the second phase will be refining, this will be at a later date, and finally the third phase will be research. United Rare Earths will start with 80 employees.
The property is 38.96 acres and is selling for $19,000 per acre.
A ground breaking is scheduled for Wednesday. United Rare Earths magnet recycling and separation facility ground breaking is slated for 10:30am at the Collins Industrial Park.
