Wilma Jean Peterson age 90 of Caryville passed away Tuesday June 9 2026. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Caryville. Preceded in death by husband Paul Peterson, daughter Gaye Peterson, parents Albert and Ethel Smith Raines, sister Mary Ruth Walther, brothers Bill and Jimmy Raines.

Wilma was small in stature but fierce in spirit. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and above all, a child of God.

Wilma was born and raised in Caryville and often shared stories of her childhood among the ridges she loved so dearly. After the loss of her father, she stepped into a role far beyond her years, helping her mother care for her younger siblings.

As a young woman, Wilma caught the eye of Paul Peterson which quickly grew into a lifelong love story, building a life rooted in faith, devotion, and family.

Together they raised their children with love and a heart for the Lord. As grandparents, they were a constant and cherished presence, creating memories that their grandchildren will carry for a lifetime.

Wilma had a gift for making a house feel like a home. She loved tending her garden, arranging flowers, decorating for every occasion, and filling her home with family. She enjoyed cooking and hosting gatherings where laughter was plentiful, and no one ever left hungry. She was often the life of the party, keeping everyone on their toes with her quick wit and spirited personality.

Wilma’s life was defined by love. Love for her family, love for her faith, and love for the simple joys of life. The memories she created, the lessons she taught, her great fashion sense, her Christmas punch recipe, and the love she shared will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
