JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- April Vinsant has pleaded guilty in a June 2023 wreck that resulted in the other driver being airlifted.

Following the accident, she was charged with vehicular assault, reckless aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, third offense DUI, driving while license revoked due to conviction of DUI and simple possession of a schedule VI.

On Tuesday, she entered a plea in the case. All charges but the vehicular assault were dismissed. A guilty plea on this charge resulted in a four year sentence to be served at 30 percent. Vinsant also was sentenced in another case. She was charged with attempting to bring contraband into the jail, possession of a schedule III controlled substance and fourth offense driving on a revoked license in that case. All charges but the attempt to take contraband into the jail were dismissed. For that charge she was sentenced to one year at 30 percent. These sentences were to run consecutively. Because Vinsant has been jailed for more than two years, she was given credit for time served. She was released following the plea.

As a condition of the plea, Vinsant must forfeit all currency, firearms, contraband and items seized as evidence in the cases.

In June 2023, Vinsant was driving her red 2004 Chevrolet Aveo on Highway 25W-63 in LaFollette in the westbound lane when she allegedly crossed over into the lane where Albert Gillespie was driving, the report said.

Gillespie was driving his silver 2014 Chevrolet Camaro in the eastbound lane when Vinsant allegedly struck him head on near Hunter’s Branch Road (in front of LaFollette Monuments) according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The accident resulted in traffic backup that lasted for hours. An ensuing investigation revealed Vinsant was allegedly under the influence of Marijuana when she crossed over into the oncoming lane striking an oncoming car, the report said.
