LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Victory Baptist Church had a packed house for its annual Christmas play on Sunday, which was a performance of “The Christmas Guest”.

The play tells the story of how God works in many ways and comes in many forms and reminds us all of the true meaning of Christmas – to be compassionate and generous and to love one another as we love Jesus. The play was inspired by a Biblical Parable which can be found in chapter 25 (Matthew 25:31-46.) This Biblical lesson on treating others with love, kindness and dignity has inspired a multitude of sermons, poetry, music, and plays.

The church’s rendition of the play was written by Steve Goins and included a nativity scene to honor Christmas’s true meaning, the birth of Christ. Sam Watkins was the narrator.

Victory Baptist Church Pastor Walter Miller spoke before Sunday’s Christmas play, encouraging others to remember the real reason to celebrate Christmas, and honor the birth of Jesus Christ.

The play starts out with a lonely widow who has dreamed on Christmas Eve that God will visit him on Christmas Day. Throughout the day, three different people in need (a hungry beggar, an old woman carrying wood and in need of rest, and a lost child) stumble upon his home. Each time, the widow invites them in and provides them with clothing, food, rest, and comfort. But as the day ends, he feels a loss as he doesn’t believe God has kept His promise to visit him. That night, the widow is visited by an Anel in another dream and learns that God visited him three times that day, that God was the hungry beggar that needed clothes and shoes, that God was the old woman who was in need of rest and warmth and also the young child who had lost her way. God was his Christmas Guest all along.
