JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- On Tuesday evening during its regularly scheduled meeting, the Campbell County Board of Education recognized two Valley View Elementary School students for being chosen as literacy ambassadors by the Governor’s Literacy Foundation. Both this year and last year’s recipients were recognized as Valley View has had a student chosen two years in a row.

“The Governor’s Literacy Foundation chooses only 10 students a year throughout the state to recognize for reading accomplishments and for two years in a row, Valley View has had students that got that recognition,” according to Director of Schools Jennifer Fields.

Madelion Tsukas was recognized as the 2024 ambassador, while Avacyn Clark was recognized as the 2025 ambassador.

Annually the Governor’s Literacy Foundation selects 10 third grade students from across the state to serve as literacy ambassadors.  “Candidates are chosen based on four key values, tenaciously driven, eager to read, noticeably growing and non-stop learning.”

“Valley View has shown significant growth in the last few years. It is always an honor to recognize their accomplishments.,” Fields said.

BOE Chairman of the Board Jeffrey Miller said the commissioners honored these two ladies several weeks ago.

“There are 147 school systems in Tennessee, and they only choose 10 students, so it’s a pretty good deal,” Miller said.
