When the time changes, it’s time to change the batteries in your smoke detector

La Follette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack encourages you to stop by the fire hall and pick up free batteries for your smoke detector.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- In addition to changing the time on your clock to Daylight Saving Time, ahead by an hour, you are encouraged to change out your smoke alarm batteries. “All folks need to do is call us (423.562.3340) for free batteries or stop by Fire Station 1 here at City Hall, and we’ll give them batteries so they can make the change,” said La Follette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack.

Three out of five home fire deaths occur in homes without working smoke alarms. In many cases, the alarms had missing or dead batteries, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

Three simple steps can make a difference, test your detectors, replace old batteries and clean your smoke detector. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/07/2025-6AM-GRAPHIC COURTESY OF GRACE KOCH)
