August 11 fire destroyed Towe String Road Convenience Center’s excavator, created damage

Firefighters batted this blaze a couple of Sundays ago at the Towe String Road Convenience’s Transfer Station.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Towe String Road Convenience Center has recovered from the August 11th fire that did damage to its Transfer Station and destroyed an excavator.

On Monday, the Campbell County Commission approved a budget amendment resolution to fund the additional costs for the purchase of an excavator for the County’s Sanitation Department.

The county’s Caterpillar Excavator was destroyed during the recent fire at the Towe String Road Transfer Station that occurred on August 11th.  The replacement of the equipment is “of primary importance” to facilitate the processing of the daily trash intake and the insurance company processed the claim on the equipment as quickly as possible.

The excavator that was destroyed was valued at $241,530, after the $1,000 insurance deductible, the county received $240,530 net insurance recovery proceeds.

“The new excavator came in today (Thursday), and we’ll be ready to open the Transfer Station to full service starting Monday at 8am,” said Todd Hatmaker with the TSR Convenience Center. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/23/2024-6AM)
