JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- A policy update for student transfers within the system was approved on Wednesday evening at the Campbell County Board of Education Policy Committee meeting. The policy will now go before the full school board on May 13th for approval.
According to BOE Policy Committee Chairman Jamie Wheeler, she feels this policy update will help deal with overcrowding of schools in the county. She also presented an example of a transfer application to the committee that goes along with the update.
According to the transfer application, “All applications for transfer must be submitted in writing by a parent or guardian. The transfer form and supporting information will then be presented to the requested school’s principal who will inform the parent or guardian of the approval or the denial of the transfer. Parents must also complete the normal registration process if the transfer is approved. The Transfer application requires that the student have a “C” or better average in all coursework, as well as 95% attendance for the previous year. Students must have no more than three disciplinary referrals during the previous year. Parents are cautioned that providing any false information will result in the denial of this request.”
“It can help, especially at the beginning of the school year. If you are overcrowded at Jacksboro and they want to come to LaFollette, you can say ‘we don’t have the room.’ It gives the principal a little more of an opportunity to say we have limited spaces and once they are gone, they are gone. It also addresses, say if a student’s mother or siblings are at a school, they get to stay at that school,” Wheeler said.
The motion passed and the policy update will be presented to the full board at the May 13th meeting. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/02/2025-6AM)
