Incident happened last Tuesday afternoon; officer injured
CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- Caryville Police requested the Tennessee Highway Patrol to investigate an accident involving a Caryville Police cruiser. The mishap occurred last Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock along Ridge Road near Cove Lake.
A 2017 Polaris RZR (ATV) was northbound, toward Hwy 25W, on Ridge Road attempting to negotiate a curve with Floyd Anthony Jones at the controls. Caryville Detective Jacob Fox was behind the wheel of a 2022 Dodge Durango southbound on Ridge Road attempting to negotiate a curve.
The ATV crossed the center divider line and entered Detective Fox’s lane, the southbound lane, striking the CPD cruiser, according to the report from the THP.
The report details that the ATV continued traveling northbound and came to a controlled rest in a private drive. The CPD cruiser came to a controlled rest on Ridge Road.
Detective Fox was injured while Jones was not, based on the THP report.
Jones, 51, Powell Lane-Speedwell, was charged with DUI (driving under the influence), possession of a hand gun while DUI. Campbell County authorities will also have charges against Jones, according to the THP report.
A Tuesday, April 22, court date awaits Jones who remains housed this morning in the Campbell County Jail. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-04/21/2025-6AM)
