JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It was a warm Thursday afternoon at Campbell County High School. Up on The Hill at L. Hope Dossett Stadium, first year head coach Taylor Ownbey held spring practice with the football Cougars.

“We just want our kids to be more physical,” said Ownbey prior to Thursday’s practice. The physical training began before practice started, as the Cougars lifted weights from 1:30pm to 2:50pm.

Coach O talked about some of the new changes coming with this football team. “We’re implementing a new offense, so we’ve just gotta make sure we get the right kids on the field to put out the product we want. Nothing much changes with the defense, but again we just need to put the right guys in place to succeed.”

Quarterbacks 17 Eli Lawson and 15 Max Boshears warm up.

Practice began promptly at 3pm with warmups and some individual work with the Cougar special teams, quarterbacks, receivers, and lineman.

After this, the offense came together to run set plays, with the first team and second team alternating every three plays.

The new offense reverts back to a spread look. “We wanna be able to run a very balanced offense. We’ll just take what the defense gives us, but we’ll definitely want to be 50-50,” said Coach Ownbey.

Some new assistants will be walking the sidelines for CCHS this season. “We are still in the process of getting a few more guys up here to add on to the coaching staff,” said Ownbey.

All in all it was a successful day on the Hill. Coach Ownbey along with his Cougars are excited to get the season started on August 22 and Lenoir City.
