Expect a challenging Wednesday morning commute, temps in the 20s with snow

CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN. (WLAF)- As Campbell County prepares for another round of winter weather, area crews are getting ready to respond.

Following severe weather on Sunday, LaFollette Utility Board Crews are restocking trucks, according to Regina Kennedy, LUB general manager.

With it being a weekday, crews will already be available as needed. A dry snow is better for LUB crews, Kennedy said. The wet, heavy snows are the ones that bring down power lines.

While LUB prefers a dry snow, a wet snow is better for road crews.

A dry snow has to be gotten off the road quickly or else it can freeze with low temperatures, according to Campbell County Road Superintendent Ron Dilbeck. Today’s predicted high is 30.

The county has 867 roads that comprise 700 miles it will be taking care of. Using 16 plows, county crews will clear the roads putting down a salt and gravel mixture where needed, Dilbeck said.

“Our main goal is to plow it (the snow) and get it off the roads,” he said.

When the snow hits, county road crews will start clearing the main roads with snowplows attached to dump trucks then move to secondary roads using pick-up trucks with plows, according to Dilbeck.
