The price of a gallon of gas spiked 30-cents in one day in May

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Gas prices were sitting at $2.29 a gallon the day before we all heard about the U-S war on Iran. The price has changed a lot since, mostly upward. Today, the price is $3.41.

Gas prices increased to $2.39 on March 2 followed by a steady increase, 20-cents in one day on March 4, 7 and 8. That’s a sixty-cent spike in less than a week.

On May 19, gas prices increased 30-cents going from $3.75 to $4.05. The price then began to reverse to $4.03 on May 21, then $3.99 on May 22 and finally to $3.82 at the end of May.

Ten years ago, the price of gasoline was $2.04 a gallon while it was $2.70 five years back. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/17/2026-6AM)
