LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The Tennessee Highway Patrol is conducting Sobriety Checkpoints around the region during the month of August, and a checkpoint is scheduled for Campbell County, namely La Follette, the evening of Friday, August 28, around dusk.

On Friday night, August 28, THP and other law enforcement units will stage on State Route 9 (US Hwy 25W) at North Tennessee Avenue near the Lobertini Bridge in north La Follette.

Troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who are driving impaired/driving under the influence in the State of Tennessee. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found Sobriety Checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing DUI laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Troopers will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.
