JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Educators make a difference in students’ lives every day. For many students, having a school employee who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher, or school employee who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hardworking educators with a weekly feature.

Schyler Ivey is Eagle Tire Pros Educator of the Week. She teaches Kindergarten at Jacksboro Elementary School.

Schyler Ivey and her family

Ivey was raised in Middletown, Ohio. She attended Wilson Elementary, Rosedale Elementary, Stephen Vale Middle School, and Middletown High School. She Graduated Cum Laude from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, and later a master’s degree from Western Governor’s University in Educational Leadership.

Her hobbies include reading fiction novels, playing music, planning and researching ways to improve lessons and student experiences.

“I also enjoy family outings with my husband and daughter,” Ivey said.

She is in her fourth-year teaching Kindergarten at Jacksboro Elementary and began teaching for Campbell County in October of 2023. She has been an educator since 2014. Prior to moving to Caryville, she taught third grade in Ohio and North Carolina.

“Being the oldest of three children meant that teaching and leading others came naturally at a young age. However, inspiration for becoming a teacher came from working Vacation Bible School and helping teach young children at my home church, Spring Hill Church of Christ, as a teen. I then had the privilege of being an Assistant Teacher and eventually a Site-Coordinator for Preschool and School-Age children with our local YMCA,” Ivey said.

Her “favorite moments in education revolve around the children.”

“Students learning and having fun while in your care is extremely rewarding. It’s only rivaled by seeing the amount of growth your class makes at the end of the year and getting students that improve from below grade level to on and above grade level,” Ivey said.

She also said she had been blessed to work with some fabulous colleagues over the years.

“Jacksboro Elementary is full of some of the hardest working and most student-focused people I’ve ever met. It’s a privilege to be a part of their team.”
