LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Educators make a difference in students’ lives every day. For many students, having a school employee who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher, or school employee who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hardworking educators with a weekly feature.
This week’s featured educator is Sarah Gammon. She is the Librarian at LaFollette Elementary School (LES). This is her 11th year in education. For her first year of teaching, she taught fourth grade and each year since, she has been a librarian.
“This is my first year at LES, and it has been a wonderful experience,” Gammon said.
She received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in administration and Supervision with a concentration in Library Science from Middle Tennessee State University.
Gammon is a “mom of five amazing children; Heather, Jacob, Abby, Owen, and Charlie”, and she is married to her “amazing husband, Travis, who is an engineer.”

“In my spare time, I enjoy reading (of course), spending time with family and friends, going to church, and listening to the latest podcast,” Gammon said.
Teaching has been Gammon’s only career, and she said she wouldn’t change that for the world.
“Teaching is the most rewarding job in the world. This is my 11th year in education. My first year of teaching, I taught 4th grade and for the rest of my teaching career, I have been a school librarian,” Gammon said.
It was her own “amazing teachers that she had in elementary school that inspired her to become a teacher.”
“It is amazing how one teacher can inspire you and make all the difference in the world. I think sometimes, as teachers, we forget the difference we really make in each of our students’ lives. Teaching can be difficult at times, but it is a very rewarding career. I am so fortunate I get to do the job I love every day,” Gammon said.
Her favorite part about teaching and being a librarian is “working with the amazing students at LES and furthering their love of reading.”
“I work with the best administration, teachers, staff, and students. I love inspiring students to have a lifelong love of reading. I strive to create a positive, fun and welcoming learning environment for all of my students. I love sharing new stories and lessons with my students. I also love that I have the privilege of helping students find new books that drive them further into a love of reading,” Gammon said.
Another favorite aspect of her career is working with her colleagues at LES.
“I love the positive atmosphere the administration and the teachers have created for our students. Every day, it is such a delight to walk the halls and greet the students. All of the students are such a joy to teach. I am so blessed to work with Mr. Chadwell and Mrs. Housley! They encourage, inspire and work hard to make sure every teacher feels “seen”. They let us know every day how much they appreciate us and work hard to help us with anything that we need. I also love working with the best related arts team! Carrie Orrick, Tracy Buell, Ester Bailey, and Tony Brawner are incredible teammates that have truly made me feel welcomed in my first year at LES,” Gammon said.
