Robert (R.L.) Landa Burton, age 87, of Jacksboro passed away peacefully in his sleep at Cumberland Village Nursing Home, August 30,2024. He was a faithful member of East Jacksboro Baptist Church. More importantly he was a child of the King. He was married to the love of his life, Patsy Chapman Burton for 60 years. He was saved at a young age. He was very active in his church. He and mom sang in many churches and on WLAF for many years. He loved the Lord and his family. He was a man with many talents. From picking the guitar to making animal sounds including his famous bird calls and donkey calls. Many will remember the many crafts he made. Probably the best times he had was going fishing with family and friends. He was a great Dad, great papaw (tiny papaw) and a great friend to many. While at Cumberland Village Nursing Home he made many friends. They will never forget him. He was the last child living of John Riley (Jack Burton) Burton and Chloe (Rutherford) Burton.
He is preceded in death by parents; wife Patsy Burton, brothers, Rev. Glenn Burton, Douglas Burton, John (JR) Burton, Arthur Leon Burton, and sisters, Gladys Henderson, Ruby McGhee, Carlie Mae Miller, and infant sisters Novaleen Burton, grandson, Charles Brandon McCreary, and great-granddaughter Valentina McCreary.
He is survived by daughter, Rita Faye Wilhoit (Dean) son Robert David Burton (Teresa). Grandchildren, Bridget (Paul) Cox, Brittany (Shawn) Cross, Riley (Kaitlyn) Burton, and Christine DelaCruz. Great-grandchildren, Chanler McCreary, Caden McCreary, Lauro DelaCruz , J.R. Cross, and Aba Pittman. Sister-in-laws Becky Burton, Geraldine Burton, and Lucy Beaver, Many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Family will receive friends 12 noon to 2 PM Sunday, September 1st with service to follow at Cross-Smith Chapel. Rev. Johnny Vanover, Rev. Marcus Gillum officiating. Interment to follow in Mt. Paran Cemetery.
Special thanks to staff at Cumberland Village Nursing Home for taking great care of our Dad. Also, special thanks to Deb Farmer for visiting with Dad.
