Campbell County officials are aware of a possible gasoline or fuel leak in the area that may have impacted nearby water.
At this time, the source of the potential leak has not been determined, and we cannot confirm whether it originated from the Highway Department or from another source in the surrounding area.
As a precaution, nearby water is being tested, and we are currently awaiting those results. The Campbell County Highway Department is working closely with TDEC, Caryville-Jacksboro Utilities Commission, local officials, and any other departments or agencies that may be impacted as we work together to determine the source and whether any impact to the water has occurred.
As always, the Campbell County Highway Department is following all required protocols, rules, and regulations concerning matters involving our department. We are fully cooperating with all appropriate agencies and will continue to do so throughout this process.
Until testing and further investigation are complete, we do not want to speculate regarding the source or extent of any potential contamination.
The safety of our employees, nearby residents, and our community remains a priority. We will continue working alongside TDEC, Caryville-Jacksboro Utilities Commission, local officials, and other involved agencies and will provide additional information as verified test results and findings become available.
