JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Commissioners approved revisions to the Sanitation Department policy and tire fees at Monday’s meeting.

According to Sanitation Director and Commissioner David Adkins, “there had been a need to change some of the language in the policy.”

The amendment states that “all recyclables brought to the facility need to be pre-sorted” and that Campbell County was a not a sorting facility.”

The other change pertains to tire fees relating to commercial tires and larger tires.

“Tractor and Ag tires and truck tires have all been amended price wise. Currently we accept tires from residents at $1. There has been a need to add a line item into that where we accept tires from businesses and we would like that amendment to be $3, instead of $2. Truck tires, semi-truck tires, anything over 19 and half inches, we want to charge $7 dollars and Tractor tires, like Ag tires backhoe tires are $25,” Adkins said.

Commissioner Rusty Orick pointed out that those were recommendations by TDEC (Tennessee Department of Environment Conservation) on tires and sizes as far as pricing.

In other business, commissioners approved an MBI contract for Transfer Station Repairs at the Sanitation Department.

A Surplus equipment list from the Clerk and Master’s Office was approved as well.

Also approved was to transfer 3.89 acres of property to the Industrial Development Board so it can handle the sale of the property. It is the property in the Caryville Industrial Park that was located next to the PTF building that the county sold last year. There are no buildings on the property. According to Commissioner Rusty Orick, “the guidance that came out of committee was for a $60,000 threshold and to let the mayor work that out with IDB,” Orick said. The county mayor’s office was approached by an interested party in the purchase of the property. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/12/2025-6AM)
