JELLICO, TN (WLAF)- Teachers make a difference in their students’ lives every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hard-working educators with a weekly feature.

This week’s featured teacher is Rashawn Ellison. She is the cosmetology instructor at Jellico High School. She is in her fourth year as an educator.

Ellison is married to her husband Adam, and together they have a 10-year-old daughter named Maddox.

Ellison is originally from Milan, Indiana. She attended a small school in Madison, Indiana. Her family moved to East Tennessee in 2000.

Jellico High School’s Rashawn Ellison is Eagle Tire Pros Teacher of the Week. She is pictured with her husband Adam, and their daughter Maddi.

“My hobbies mostly revolve around whatever interests my daughter at the time, whether it’s cheerleading or other sporting events. You can usually find me in a gym, watching either my daughter cheer or my husband’s teams play, as he is an assistant girls’ basketball coach at CCHS,” Ellison said. She and her family are also very involved in their church, which is Guiding Star Baptist Church.

Ellison is the cosmetology instructor at Jellico High School and said she had always wanted to be a teacher, but only began her teaching career several years ago.

“This is currently my 4th year teaching at Jellico. I’ve always dreamed of becoming a teacher, but I decided to pursue cosmetology instead. I worked as a hairstylist for over 15 years and absolutely loved it,” Ellison said.

However, once her daughter started school, she said she realized how much she was “missing by being at work.”

“I wanted to have a schedule that allowed me to be more present in her life. That’s when I decided to pursue my instructor’s license,” Ellison said.

She loves being a teacher and especially sharing her passion of cosmetology with her students. She also said she loves working at Jellico.

“My favorite part of my job is the opportunity to share my deep love and passion for cosmetology with my students. I absolutely love coming to work each day. Jellico is such a special place with truly wonderful people,” she said.

Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros. To nominate a teacher for teacher of the week honors, please send your nomination to wlaf@1450wlaf.com.
