Opening glove box triggered events leading to two arrests

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- A routine traffic stop for a light out resulted in a double drug arrest for La Follette Police. Late Wednesday night, LPD K-9 Sergeant Robert Cobb saw a car with a non-working license plate light. The silver 2000 Chrysler 300 was traveling west on Jacksboro Pike.

At 9:21 pm, the sergeant performed a traffic stop near the KROME Salon. He came in contact with the driver, Trenedy Reed, and passenger, Tammy Rose, on the passenger side of the car. Sgt. Cobb introduced himself, explained the reason for the stop and asked if they were aware of the light being out. Reed said no while Rose mentioned that they were just talking about the license plate lights being out.

When asked about a license and paperwork for the car, Reed told the sergeant that he didn’t have a driver’s license. Rose opened the glove box to retrieve the registration, and Sgt. Cobb allegedly saw a glass pipe with burned residue inside it. Cobb’s drug related investigation knowledge tipped him off that the pipe had likely been used to smoke meth. That prompted a radio call for assistance from LPD Officers Kaleigh Norman and Jerry Campbell.

Sgt. Cobb walked both Reed and Rose to Norman’s cruiser and had them sit on the ground while a search of the Chrysler was conducted. Reed consented to a search of his person, and suboxone and gabapentin were allegedly found in his pant’s pocket.

A search of a green-blue pocket book near where Rose was sitting in the car allegedly contained multiple syringes. One of the syringes contained possible meth, approximately 30CCs of a clear fluid, and another syringe had blood in it. Two individual bags of a white crystal-like substance believed to be meth were located. The discoveries prompted Sgt. Cobb with assistance from Officer Campbell to cuff Reed and Rose.

There was also a black purse in the car that was searched and netted marijuana. Total weight of the marijuana came out to more than eight grams, according to the police report.

Rose allegedly admitted the marijuana was hers as was the syringe that contained clear fluid. Reed took ownership of the crystal meth that was in the car, based on the report.

Sgt. Cobb noted in his report that both Reed and Rose expressed a desire to get clean and leave Campbell County.

Reed and Rose were placed under arrest and transported to the Campbell County Jail.

Reed, 41, homeless, of Clairfield, was charged with scheduled II and IV possession and driving while in possession of meth. Charges for Rose, 61, of Lima Lane, La Follette, were schedule II possession, schedule VI simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/28/2026-6AM)
