LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- If you’ve not traveled North Tennessee Avenue after dark lately, when you do, you will see a lot of difference.

New LED lighting has been added to the street from the Royal Lunch & Billiards to Mill Street. The last time North Tennessee Avenue had street lights mounted on poles was in the late 1960s.

Back in the late 1960s, the Lafollette Urban Renewal program removed the street light poles to install canopies over the sidewalks. With the canopies, the poles had to be removed.
The new poles have been set close together to provide a continuous light pattern which eliminates dark areas between lights.

There is still some work to be done before this project is completed, but the difference so far is like daylight and dark. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/30/2026-6AM)
