JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It appears that there are still issues in the Mt. Perkins Subdivision. After Sunday’s heavy rainfall, a resident in the neighborhood was at the Jacksboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen monthly meeting on Monday afternoon to discuss flooding that had occurred. The resident alleged there was debris from the creek that flowed into neighborhood yards and had caused damage.

Mayor Shayne Green told the resident the homeowners would need to file civil suits against the developers who had created the issue for damages. This has been an ongoing issue for the residents since a developer bought three lots intending to put modular homes on them. In March, residents expressed concerns about the potential for flooding because of the development. At that time, concerns about stagnant water in blue streams (an area that is only wet when it rains) was discussed. It was alleged there were stumps in the area that had caused blockage. The board discussed contacting Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation to get its input into the situation.
In other business, Ordinance No. 140 was approved on a second reading to approve guidelines for data centers and cryptocurrency mining. Resolution No. 380 amending the 2025-26 budget was approved.
The board had several resignations and hires to approve beginning with the resignation of Sean Brown as a full time firemen, and the resignation of Tyler Pearson as a part time police officer effective June 30. The board approved hiring Bryson McCulley as a full time firemen at $31,200 a year. James “Bucky” McCulley was promoted to a full time position in the street department at $14 an hour, and the hiring of Luke Barton as a part time police officer at $17 an hour was approved.
In final business, the board approved changing telephone coverage to Knoxtel. The change will save the town $100 per month.
The board met prior to the regular monthly meeting in a special called meeting to have a second and final reading of the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. The board approved the town’s budget with a projected revenue of $2,001,644 and expenses totaling $2,001,644. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/30/2026-6AM)
