CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN. (WLAF)- On Feb. 25, at 12:15pm, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office Investigators conducted a traffic stop on 5th Street in Jellico.

During the stop, investigators allegedly recovered a substantial amount of a crystalized substance believed to be Methamphetamine from the passenger, Steven Mefford, 54.

Authorities also allegedly found other narcotics, including multiple individually wrapped baggies containing a substance believed to be Heroin. As the investigation continued, investigators conducted a search at Mefford’s apartment where additional illegal narcotics were allegedly recovered.

The search resulted in the discovery of prescription medications packaged for resale and a substance believed to be marijuana, reports said.

Mefford was charged with possession of controlled substances l, lV, and VI for resale, four counts of possession of schedule ll for resale, and two counts of schedule V for resale.

Mefford, 54, of 747 Summit Street, Jellico, remains housed this morning in the Campbell County Jail without bond, according to jail records. He is due back in court on March 11. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 2/27/2025-6AM)
