One deputy versus three suspects; two taken into custody

JELLICO, TN (WLAF)- While on routine patrol in the noon hour on Monday, Campbell Sheriff’s Deputy Kendra Porter pulled over to check on an SUV parked on the shoulder of I-75.

Near Mile Marker 158 is where the deputy approached a silver Ford Escape with Kentucky plates. She saw two males duck down and hide, one behind the SUV, one on the driver’s side. The deputy gave verbal commands for the men to come to the front of the Ford, one complied, one fled into the woods. The man Porter took into custody was identified as Ricky Davis while Ricky Adkins ran into a wooded area.

While detaining Davis, the deputy found a third male, Alvin Mason, sitting in the wood line. Mason followed Deputy Porter’s verbal commands and was also detained. The deputy called for back up to help search the woods for Adkins.

Adkins, a 50-year old white male, was not found. As a result, Porter took out a warrant for his arrest.

Deputy Porter recovered drugs during her search around and in the SUV. Behind the vehicle, a torn small baggy with what was believed to be meth inside it was found while up under the SUV a larger baggy likely containing 18 grams of meth was discovered, according to the report from the sheriff’s office.

The two detained suspects gave up Adkins. Deputy Porter located an indictment and mail inside the SUV with Adkins name on it.

Mason was allowed out of the deputy’s cruiser to smoke. As Mason removed his cigarettes from the cargo pocket of his shorts, the deputy saw a clear baggy believed to be containing marijuana, based on the deputy’s report.

Ricky Dale Davis, 41, and Alvin Ernest Mason, 52, both of Middlesboro, were transported to the Campbell County Jail. Davis was charged with possession schedule II with intent-manufacture-deliver-sell while Mason faces a schedule VI simple possession charge. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/21/2026-6AM)
