LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The LaFollette Utilities Board approved several resolutions at its regularly scheduled monthly meeting held on Monday evening, including a $15 million Electric System Revenue Bonds “recommending resolution to the city of LaFollette.”
“We just came from the city asking their approval of this bond issuance and it went well,” said LUB General Manager Regina Kennedy.
According to Kennedy “$5 million is for a refinance and the other $10 million is for line upgrade projects.”
“It is to refinance $5 million in current debt that was for capital expenditure projects and for new finances, to be used for three large transformers. The transformers will be installed, one at the Royal Blue Substation, one at the Sweet Gum Flats Substation and one for the “future Deerfield Substation. Some of the financing is also for upgrading some lines out towards the Deerfield area just to sustain the load in that area until a substation can be built,” Kennedy said.
Also approved was Resolution 04-28-25-02 approving OSM Administrative Services and Resolution 04-28-25-03 approving OSM Engineering Services. These services are for the water line extension project in the Big 4 area up in Stinking Creek.
These services were advertised and according to Kennedy Community Development Partners responded with a bid for Administrative Services and the utility has “worked with them in the past” according to Kennedy who recommended board approval.
Robert G. Campbell & Associates was approved to provide engineering services. Both of these resolutions are contingent upon the utility receiving a grant that it has applied for to cover the costs of administrative and engineering services. If the utility does not receive the grant, then the “resolutions die”
In other business, Kennedy announced that due to the holiday, the next monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 27th with the workshop at 6 pm and the meeting to follow immediately after. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-04/29/2025-6AM)
