LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)—History was made back in 1968. Lafollette Police Chief Roy Beever is standing (photo above) in the newly completed female jail cell at the city jail, which was in the municipal building on First Street at the time. The entire jail had recently been renovated, and a female jail cell was included in the update.

This was the first time the Lafollette city jail had ever had a female cell. The new cell included four bunks, a sink, a toilet, and a shower separate from the male cells.

With this addition, female prisoners no longer had to be transported to the county jail at Jacksboro. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/19/2025-6 AM)
