Johnny Carson Parrott (85) of Lake City, TN, lovingly known as John, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025 after a long battle with dementia. He was born to George and Olivia (Pierce) Parrott on November 18th, 1939 in Speedwell, TN. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and his memory will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew him.
John dedicated many years of his professional life to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, where he served as a surveyor for 32 years, retiring in 1990. His commitment to his work was paralleled by his family and the simple pleasures of life. An avid outdoorsman, he found limitless joy in fishing on Norris Lake, where he would often take his grandchildren and create lasting memories. His passion for card games, playing the TN Lottery, riding around town, waving to passerby’s from the front porch, and laughter with friends illuminated gatherings, making lifelong stories that will be treasured forever. In addition to his rural lifestyle, John took immense pride in working on his cattle farm, rolling hay, and gardening.
He leaves behind his only beloved daughter, Stacey Abbott; his two cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Abbott and wife Gates Abbott of Knoxville as well as Sarah Abbott and fiancée, Justin Durbin of Clinton. John is also survived by his loving sisters, Marcy P. Lay of Knoxville and Mary Sue Hutson of Dayton, Ohio, and sister in law Mildred Parrott of Rocky Top who shared in the love and warmth he brought to their family. As well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, longtime friend Thomas Jobe and others.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude and appreciation to his caregivers, Angela Petree and Teresa Vance, for all their help and compassionate assistance.
For family and friends that want to pay their respects to John, he will lie in state on Wednesday, February 12th from 10am to 2pm at Leach Family Funeral Home with a graveside service at Ridgeview Baptist Cemetery to follow.
Rest in peace, Johnny. You will always be in our hearts.
